Fr. Ludwik Stryczek OMI

Fr. Ludwik was born on August 3, 1958 in Łąka to a peasant family of Józef and Łucja née Chmiel. In the years 1965-1973 he attended primary school in Łąka. After graduating, he learned the profession of an electrician at the ZSZ in Pszczyna. In 1974, after the death of his uncle, he moved to Wisła Wielka, where he helped his widowed aunt on the farm for five years. After graduating from the basic vocational school, he attended the Secondary School for Working in Pszczyna, which he graduated from in 1979. In the same year, on September 1, he entered the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. After a year of novitiate at the Holy Cross in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, he studied at the Major Seminary of Oblates in Obra for 6 years. During his studies, on August 8, 1984, he made his perpetual vows. On June 14, 1986, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Stanisław Napierała. After ordination, he was sent to the Oblate parish in Iława as a curate and treasurer of the house. After a year, he was transferred to the Marian Sanctuary in Kodeń on the Bug as a treasurer. In December 1989, he went to France to prepare for mission work. On August 15, 1990, he arrived in Cameroon. The first missionary outpost was Guider, where he worked for 1.5 years. After this period, he undertook missionary duties in the South-East of Cameroon among the Pygmies. Five months later he arrived in the north of Cameroon for a mission in the village of Bidzar. Then he worked on a mission in the city of Tchollire in the Diocese of Garoua. From 2017 he was sent to form the newly formed Padarma mission in the diocese of Garoua in North Cameroon. On January 1, 2020, Figuil celebrated the 50th anniversary of Polish Oblates in Cameroon.
He flew to Canada on February 20 for 7 weeks. The purpose of his visit to Canada is to thank Father Janusz Błażejek OMI and all Friends of the mission for their help in building a well, church and mission in Padarme.
