Priesthood

The Savior chose His twelve closest associates – the apostles, whom He commissioned the work of transforming the world into the kingdom of God, freed from the power of sin and Satan, and given to God and sanctified. Therefore, He ordered them to preach the Gospel to every creature (see Mt 28, 18-20), to celebrate the Eucharist as His memento (see Luke 22:19) and to forgive sins (see Jn 20,22-23). The priests also have to take care of the kingdom of God, that is, they are to build the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, and thus contribute to the salvation of the world and to the worship of God. Like the apostles, the priests are called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world, to be ordained as sacraments, but mainly to celebrate the Eucharist and to give absolution.
