Confirmation

The sacrament of Confirmation, together with baptism and the Eucharist, belongs to the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity should be preserved. Therefore, it is necessary to explain to the faithful that the reception of this sacrament is necessary to complete the grace of baptism (Compare Confirmation Rites, Praenotand, 1). Indeed, “through the sacrament of Confirmation (baptisms) they are even more closely associated with the Church, they receive the special power of the Holy Spirit and in this way they are even more obliged as true witnesses of Christ to spread the word and faith and to defend it” (Vatican Council II, Const. Lumen gentium, 11, see: Confirmation Rites, Praenotand, 2).
