Chrism Mass

His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, invites all to celebrate in the Chrism Mass on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Michael’s Cathedral on 66 Bond Street. During the Mass the oils will be blessed. The liturgy calls for three kinds of oils: oil of the sick, oil of catechumens – used at baptism – and chrism oil which is a mixture of natural oil and vegetable oil with spices (most often with balsam). The oil of chrism is the most widely used of the three oils. It is used on the sacrament of baptism, confirmation and holy orders. It is also used in the consecration of churches and altars.
